About
Muriel Webster is a Glasgow based artist creating contemporary, meaningful jewellery using traditional goldsmithing techniques. Inspired by Glasgow’s rich architectural and design heritage, Muriel’s work celebrates the contrast between the urban landscape and the beautiful green spaces of her home city. Focusing on the details around her, she blends organic forms, geometric shapes and unusual textures to create unique jewellery, rich in variations and harmonies.
Combining precious metals with gemstones, Muriel makes each piece slowly, carefully and with great attention to detail. Muriel’s jewellery captures movement, bouncing light and changing shapes.
Wax carving and Mitsuro Hikime offer the freedom to explore organic forms, rework pieces until fully satisfied, then have them cast in precious metals. The fascinating and wonderfully organic shapes created during starling murmurations are the starting point for a new collection using Mitsuro Hikime.
A very special part of Muriel’s job is working with customers to design and create bespoke pieces that reflect personal sentiments, bringing joy and capturing memories. If you would like to discuss a commission please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.
Silver & Scribble is a Glasgow-based mother/daughter partnership established in 2020. Muriel was working as a primary school teacher and Liv was completing her Illustration degree in Dundee when lockdown started. Liv came home to Glasgow and their focus on jewellery making and illustration was an excellent way to stay positive and productive. This brought them a happiness that they wanted to share with others so they opened their online shop, developed a range of jewellery and illustration, and Liv published her first book.
Over the past 7 years Muriel has developed her skills at Vanilla Ink Jewellery School on a part-time basis. Having recently retired from teaching she is now able to focus on making jewellery full time and is currently taking part in Vanilla Ink's INKubator Programme. Liv has established a new career as a primary teacher although she continues to be a valuable contributor to collections under the Silver & Scribble brand name.
