Luckenbooths are distinctive pieces of Scottish jewellery dating back to the early 16th Century. They were traditionally used as a token of love in much the same way as engagement and wedding rings are exchanged today. They were often given to new-born babies to act as a talisman and protect them from harm. The name Luckenbooth comes from the lockable market booths (luckenbuiths) where the merchants sold their wares in the area around St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.
This Luckenbooth pendant comprises a crown and two interlocking hearts.
The crown has been sawn by hand from 0.8mm Sterling silver sheet then satinised to give a gorgeous sparkling shine. The interlocking hearts have been formed using 1mm round silver wire then a hammered finish has been added. The hearts are suspended from the crown on a couple of silver jump rings to allow them to move freely.
Crown - approximately 19mm x 9mm
Hearts - approximately 16mm x 13mm
Pendant is supplied on a Sterling silver ball chain. Select 16" or 18" at checkout.
